This is an authentic Movie Theater Backdrop or Curtain from the mid 1900's. Just like the old Vaudeville Backdrops, this large canvas banner features advertising from the local retail merchants. Extremely well painted this piece was produced by Grosh & Company in Hollywood California. The ornate gold frames around each of the merchants signs looks very realistic, almost 3D. Cleo is a unique and one-of-a-kind piece by the Mississippi Delta artist Floyd Shaman. Cleo is made of various pieces of wood that are laminated and then shaped to give her her form. She is sitting in what appears to be an antique chair, with her hands permanently affixed to the arms of the chair. Her face is painted and features glass eyes and the hair is made from a decorative trim wood molding. The chair appears to be a found piece that the artist altered to incorporate in this work.
