SOLD 

Japanese Imari porcelain covered vegetable bowl measuring 5 1/8" diameter x 3 3/8” high. The bowl and lid are decorated in underglaze blue (sometsuke) and overglaze polychrome pigments with gilt highlights and features six alternating floral panels. The interior is undecorated. A central square red seal is on the top of the lid and an underglaze blue square "fuku" mark is on the base. Dates from the 19th century (late Edo to Meiji perid). Very good overall condition.

Japanese Arita porcelain nagazara rectangular tray decorated in sometsuke (underglaze blue enamel). The interior center features a shochikubai pattern, or “three friends” motif of pine, prunus and bamboo. The exterior is decorated with a sometsuke karakusa (scrolling foliage) design. The four edges have a cut corner finish. Large Japanese Meiji to Taisho period heavily potted "aka-e" (red) Kutani porcelain teapot decorated with beauties and young girls set against a continuous landscape scene. The base has a stylized gold on red mark. Stands about 7 3/4" high. Dates circa 1900 - 1920. Very good overall condition. There is a tiny unnoticeable frit on the rim which can be felt. It appears to be a production flaw.

Japanese heavily potted Meiji “aka-e”(red) Kutani style export porcelain 3-piece tea set consisting of a covered teapot, creamer, and covered sugar vessel decorated in overglaze rust-red and polychrome enamels with gilt highlights. An alternating central cartouche on both sides of each piece includes figural motifs engaged in scholarly activities in outdoor settings. Unusual Chinese stoneware molded praying monkey covered in a runny brown glaze probably crafted to serve as a toy or tomb object. About 2 1/2" long. Circa 12th century. Very good overall condition with a tiny glaze loss to one ear. From the private collection of a former American expatriate to Guangzhou in 1983-1984.

SOLD 

Chinese late Qing to early Republic period ceramic modeled container shaped like a "ha ma," or toad, with a hollow body and flat base covered in a monochrome pearl glaze with a seeded finish. Measures about 10 ½”L x 9 ¼”W x 6”H. There are some old surface cracks visible. The back section appears to have been restored and the gray areas in the pearl glaze appear to be old restorations which were executed in China. Large Japanese Kutani porcelain bowl decorated in gilt and overglaze polychrome enamels. A square cartouche in the center of the bowl features two birds perched on flowering tree limbs. A band interspersed with flowers and geometric forms extends around the circumference of the interior and exterior rim. The exterior is decorated with lacquer cups and sprigs of budding foliage. Large Japanese 19th century Imari porcelain 9 5/8” diameter x 3 ¾”H deep bowl. This piece was quite likely produced for New Year's celebration purposes in the year of the rabbit. A central roundel is bordered in an underglaze blue comb pattern band. It features an overglaze enameled Ship of Good Fortune (takarabune), which is laden with treasures and is known to carry the Seven Gods of Good Luck into port at New Year’s.
