A very nice Mesopotamian terracotta incantation bowl excavated in southern Babylon and dated to the 6th century AD. The bowl measures 6.5 cm in height with a circumference of 48 cm and a diameter of 15.3 cm. Aramaic characters surround the inside of the bowl and the figure of a demon is on the inside bottom. Shipping is free and the base of the bowl is rounded but stands alone. The item has been repaired and two or three pieces are missing. The bowl is in good condition.Incantation bowls, sometimes known as magic bowls and/or demon traps were often buried under the floors or thresholds in homes to protect the residents from evil spirits or demons. Spells in a spiral form were written on the inside of the bowl beginning at the bottom, where there was frequently a painted figure. When the demon tried to enter the home he/she was trapped in the bowl with the magic spells against them.
