Vintage carved wood statue of Ebisu, one of the Shichifukujin, the Seven Lucky Gods of Japan. Early Showa-Period (c.1950); very good condition. Approximately 7 1/2 inches tall by 4 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches deep. Ebisu is considered the God of Fishermen and Good Fortune, among many other mystical attributes, and is still very popular throughout Japan.

Japanese antique zushi, a miniature Buddhist shrine. Likely designed for the traveler, this very small shrine measures only three inches tall, two inches wide, and one inch deep. It is hand made of wood, with dark brown lacquer on the outside and gold leaf on the inside. It features two hinged doors, which are in excellent working condition. Unusual style vintage Japanese Zushi, a miniature shrine designed to house small Buddhist statues or worship scrolls. Crafted primarily from keyaki, an exotic hardwood indigenous to Japan. Antique Japanese hibachi, a traditional room or hand warmer. This unusual item has been fashioned from a large antique bronze Buddhist temple bell, known as rin or orin. The bell appears to have cracked (see enlargement 12), destroying its ring tone. Rather the discard the bell, it was mounted onto a keyaki wood base, equipped with handles, and resurrected as a functional coal brazier. Unusual antique ceramic statue depicting the Hotei and Fukurokuju, two of the Seven Lucky Gods, or Hichifukujin, of Japan. This rare item, from the Bizen kilns, dates to the Meiji-period (1868-1912). Bizen pottery, along with the pottery of the Seto, Tokoname, Tanba, Echizen and Shigaraki regions, is one of the six potteries of the Middle Ages.
