This form of Scottish brooch is among my favorite. It is called a penannular, or split ring. Used for centuries to secure garments, this brooch appears strikingly modern in its sleek, simple design. It is rendered in 12k gold and set with beautifully chosen agates cut en cabachon. The top is a citrine, finely cut in the form of the native flower of Scotland, the thistle. These Victorian gold Scottish cufflinks are quite rare. Most antique Scottish jewelry was designed in silver and finding any in gold is rare. In this case,it was truly exciting to find Victorian Scottish agate cufflinks rendered in gold. The 9k gold is finely hand engraved and inlaid with Montrose gray,bloodstone,jasper and mustard colored agates. There is a fine interplay of color the geometry is superb.
