This is the only one of these desirable tobacco boxes that we have encountered that is complete with the jade toggle and slider to close the box. In an attractive burl wood that has a mellow patine, the box has a fitted burl wood lid which is carved to fit. The brown silk like cord functions to both control the lid as well as to provide suspension from the belt. The jade toggle is in the form of , perhaps a peach and the slider is a simple jade square. A classic Mingei Tonkotsu, simply carved to hold tobacco. The Muso-zutzu or pipe case is suspended on a black silk cord with a fluted glass ojime and is also quietly understated in a brown woven style. Both in very good condition with the usual wear from use and age. Late 19th Century.

With an engraved scene of two 1920's Soviet Biplanes in flight and personalized with initials in the upper left corner, this is a very seldom encountered early Soviet collectible. In very good condition with only very slight abrasion and minor dents from age and use. The interior bears assayers stamps and the 1927-1946 marks indicating 84 Zolotnicks of silver fineness. Size, 3" x 3".

A very fine Imperial Russian silver and niello tobacco box dated 1884. With a classic Imperial period Dacha on the lid and a floral surround cartouche bearing the initials SD on the back. The gilt interior bears the date 1884 as well as an assayers touch mark on both the lid and bottom. In excellent condition with only sight wear from use and age. A very attractive Japanese, Golden Era cloisonne cigarette case with a blue, writhing dragon against a white field. The interior is enameled in blue to create a complete statement. The brass or bronze case was originally silvered but that has worn away on the contact surfaces. While there is only minor cracking and mini chips from use, it seems that moisture has entered at the seams and created some discoloration at the edges.
