A superb Dutch engraved Saxon goblet dating to C1740. A tall round funnel bowl copper wheel engraved with the arms of the Seven United Provinces of the Netherlands; encircling a lion rampant. To the left of the arms is a period character clasping seven arrows in a similar fashion to the lion. The arrows symbolic of the seven provinces. A domed and folded foot with rough pontil. English lead glass and in perfect condition, a small speck of un-melted silica to the bowl. Height: 5 ½” Rim: 2 5/8” Foot: 2 ¾” This glass is illustrated on page 19 of Turnbull & Herron’s ‘The Price Guide To English 18th Century Drinking Glasses’.

An English Georgian small goblet dating to C1725-30. A lipped bucket bowl with solid base above a plain stem section and then a hollow inverted baluster and basal knop. A good wide conical folded foot with rough pontil. Lead glass with a light grey tone and in good condition. Height: Just over 6 ¼” Rim: 2 7/8” Foot: 3 1/8” Bowl capacity: 4 1/2 fl oz. Bucket bowl balusters are scarce and this is a good example and marks the transition to the lighter form of baluster glass.

Dating to C1720 or perhaps a little earlier; this glass has a pointed round funnel bowl with solid base with copper wheel engraving of an owl on a tree bough with ‘toujours es claue’ above. The owl is symbolic of fidelity and the old French engraved inscription translates roughly to ‘always to hold’ or ‘always to cherish’.
