This is an exquisite large, signed bamboo basket made in Japan in the early-mid 20th century. It is done in the Japanese style (i.e., not Chinese style). The artisan, Chiku-yuu-sai, began at the bottom with a simple one-over, one-under weave. To make the sides of the basket, he gathered and tied several strips of bamboo into large open knots.
