This lot consists of two Illustrated books about and by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

Book #1 Firebrand: the Life of Dostoevsky by Henry Troyat 1946 First Edition (Hard Cover) Good Condition. 8vo-over 7 3/4 "-9 3/4 " tall. 438 pages, rough cut page edges, pale beige-green boards, no jacket, red and white titles on black background on spine. Includes chapter heading woodcuts and full page woodcut drawings by Mrozewski. Boards have moderate wear, some browning on page block edges

Book #2 Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The Idiot: Translated by Constance Garnett. Illustrated by Boardman Robinson . Hardcover: Publisher: Modern Library, 1935 Good condition book, with minor rubs and scuffing to cover corners, some browning to edges of interior pages, Tight, sound, unmarked copy, except for gift notes in blue ink on page opposite the inside front cover.

This unusual painted lacquer plaque measures about 15 1/4 inches by 12 inches by 1/2 inch thick. It has an outstanding pattern of carved and inlaid ivory pieces creating a finely detailed picture of birds and flowers on a deep sky blue oval background. It is surrounded by raised gilt and vermillion lacquer paintings of fruit and plants.

It dates to the late 19th century or Meiji Period in Japan.

It has an ivory rectangle with the artist's signature in the lowere left corner of the blue lacquer oval.

It may have originally been the cover to a book or woodblock print album.
