A marvelous Nicoya Polychrome tripod bowl from Costa Rica, ca. 800 - 1200 AD. This exceptional vessel is 6-1/2" in diameter and is elaborately decorated with two panels depicting finely detailed two-headed jaguars, separated by two panels representing the two-headed monster motif, an identifying characteristic of this type. An adorable Nicoya couple from Costa Rica, ca. 500 – 800 AD. This matched pair of Galo Polychrome figures is 4-1/4” high and is depicted seated, with hands on hips. Both are extensively painted to represent clothing and ritual tattoos. They are adorned with ear spools and traditional headdresses. In excellent condition, with strong paint and good mineral deposits.

An excellent Nicoya polychrome bowl from Costa Rica, ca. 1200 – 1500 AD. This superb Vallejo Polychrome vessel is 7” in diameter and features a pair of conjoined avian (owl?) deities, which represent the forces of the night. The recurved step-fret designs incorporated into the connecting bands show Southern Maya stylistic influence. The salmon slip points to this being a rare Lazo-Filadelfia Variety piece. In excellent condition, with vivid paint and good mineral deposits.

An exceptional Nicoya cylinder vase from Costa Rica, ca. 800 – 1000 AD. This early Culebra type is 9-3/8” high, 5-1/4” in diameter and depicts two jaguars playing the ballgame. Each jaguar is confronting a Ball Court deity, depicted with jaguar spots. The lower band is a variant of the Maya Sun glyph. A magnificent example in virtually perfect condition, with vivid paint, strong dendrites and just tiny spots of pigment loss.

An adorable zoomorphic vessel from Costa Rica, ca. 1000 – 1500 AD. This fine Linea Vieja type with broad loop handle is 4” in diameter and depicts a frog or reptilian creature with appliquι features. Additional decorative elements include punctured incising and linear paint designs. Nice example with good mineral deposits, heavy encrustation on the interior, small repair.

An exceptional Diquis gold bracelet from Costa Rica, ca. 1000 – 1500 AD. This beautifully hammered, slightly convex example is 2-3/8" in diameter and weighs 6.3 grams. The inside shows the manufacturing process, which involved an anealing technique, starting with a thin sheet that would be repeatedly folded, heated and hammered. In superb condition.

An excellent Trophy Head vessel from Costa Rica, ca. 1000 – 1350 AD. This Mora Polychrome type is 4-3/4” high and depicts an individual with the characteristically stylized facial features and molded crown elements. The intricately woven pattern on the back of the head is typical of this style ceramic. Two little rim dings, else a nice example.
