Here is a charming, well-executed watercolor painted portrait of a Jack Russell terrier. Her name, Pixie, is inscribed along with the letter 'A', which may the initial of the owner, or perhaps the artist. This is English in origin and dates to the very early 1900's. It is housed in a heavy frame that measures 16 X 12, behind a burled wood mat. Original price was $675.

This is a very handsome, well rendered oil on canvas of a pair of terriers- a Jack Russell and an Irish terrier. It is not signed, but was attributed to the very famous Scottish animal artist Colin Graeme Roe (1855-1910), who was known for painting dogs and horses. His auction records run into the thousands, but since this is unsigned, and has a spot of poor restoration, this painting is on sale for much less. Antique dog collars are highly collectible and this one is a great example. It appears to be brass plated onto metal. The size is adjustable, but when open it is about 18 inches long. It is engraved: Hyden, 57 Portland St. S.E. Either English or American and dates to the early 1900's or late 1800's. The brass has mostly worn away and there are numerous bends and dents in the metal, but it is still very strong and sturdy, and could be used today. Good condition with just a few bubbles where the linen/canvas separated slightly from the backing. This was, no doubt, someone's pet, and this portrait is very well accomplished. Housed in a handsome Victorian frame with incised decoration and a gilt liner. The frame measures 13.25 X 15.25. Original price was $785.

The collar and bow were gilded in the beginning, but most of it is worn off from age. It appears that he also held something in his mouth, probably a basket. This is such a sweet touching painting. It depicts an old man and his faithful dog. He wears the tartan garments of a 19th century Scotsman and appears to be sitting in a tavern with his collie, sharing a tender moment. The painting is an oil on canvas and dates to the mid-late 1800's. Condition is fair with lots of age crazing of the paint surface, and some waviness of the canvas. It is in a arch-shaped walnut frame from the same period that measures 18.5 X 18 inches.
