This is the most intriguing and spectacular pair of Japanese Shishi figurines. I specialize in figural Asian porcelain and these figures are a rare find,I have never seen a pair quite like these, and unfortunately I can not read the character marks. The Shishi, or Foos if you prefer appear to be Kutani, with starburst marks characteristic of late 19th centur Japanese. Great flamboyant style, pizazz and wonderful brilliant polychrome color and unique details. The Shishi have a unique charming almost folk art "mingei" feel. There was old felt backing which I have removed but find no identifying marks, so the figurines probably date to pre 1890. I have left a very early price sticker which came with the figurines. Dimensions: Height 8 1/4" (24.50cm) . Length 4 3/4" (11cm) Width 3 1/2" (9cm) Condition: No Damage, normal wear for the period.

Here is an immaculate set of four service bowls, covers and plates, all signed as shown with a six character Hirado mark on all 12 pristine pieces. This early KUTANI bowl is an exceptionally fine and highly detailed work of art. Painted in "Rouge De Fer" with gilt accents the bowl has strong KUTANI details with well executed figurals and landscape views in the cavettos. The porcelain body has a fine small krackle finish on a grayed body presenting a total Japanese feel yet the coloration will blend with your Chinese Imari or Rouge De Fer as well. The enamels are particularly well executed in the interior as well as the exterior. Indeed, a special signed Kutani porcelain. Dimensions: Diameter 7 1/2"(19cm) Height 3 1/2"(9cm) Condition: Very good. There is a small area in the under glaze on exterior which was possibly rubbed prior to firing. there are a few pin head pits in the glaze. This is typical in works of this age.

Here is a 19th century Japanese cloisonne vase in dark pigeon blood red, with multi color floral blossoms, and color accents on the rim and base. The vase is finely crafted, and the enamel is applied over brass. Dimensions: 7 Condition: Very goood. No losses to enamel, some normal wear for the period.

The polychrome details are subtle, but beautifully painted. The pitcher is signed on the base. This interesting female version (with dog) of the famous Japanese Fukusukesan is a BANK. The figure which looks a little like Daruma to me is the companion piece to the Fukusukesan gentleman shown in the last two photos. Both figures have coin slots on the back of the neck. He is available here also. I do not know who this figurine represents. She is unsigned. Dimensions: About 8" Height Condition: Excellent, no chips or frits
