A fine landscape fan painting by listed artist Zhu WenQing, a 19th century Wuxi artist. He was skilled in landscape, genre, flowers and birds. Full calligraphy poem on the reverse side by Yang JinXun. Both painting and calligraphy are dedicated to a friend. Both are signed and sealed. Dated summer of 1861.

Qing listed artist Zhang Ban (1812-?), born Hebei near Peking. Specialized in birds and flowers as well as landscape. This is a long scroll painting on silk of lilies in a rock garden. Inscribed and signed Yuan Fu Dao Ren (artist pen name) and dated summer of 1855 by the artist with seal, upper left. Five other inscriptions by literati of the period, signed between 1855-56.

An autumn scene beautifully framed by birch trees with a 3 mast ship in the back. A typical New England scene by the 19th century New Bedford artist Louis K. Harlow (1850-1913). His paintings tend to be small. This one is unusually large. Water color and in a vintage wood frame.

A fine serigraph by contemporary artist Isaac Tarkay (born 1935). It is numbered and signed by the artist, and with embossed seal of publisher (partial concealed by matt), see detail. Double matted and framed. Tarkay does cafe scenes reminiscent of the 1920s Toulouse Lautrec. This one is a tad unusual with the girl reading. His women remind me of Marie Laurencin. Frame 18 by 23". Image 12.5 by 16.5". Very good condition with no stains or tears.

清画小鹿 This is a traditional Chinese brush painting of a beautiful deer with sharp antlers. He looks so proud and grand. The silk is old and is clearly at least 19th century. A gorgeous 19th century China trade marine oil painting portrait of the 3 masted clipper ship Unity of Boston under full sail. Excellent details, including riggings and sail. Good wave action, and there is another ship on the horizon. You can see the reefing lines on the sails. She is flying the American ensign. A lovely 1892 China trade oil painting portrait of the 3 masted clipper ship Woolton under full sail. It is by the Calcutta (India) Chinese port artist Lai Fong. Excellent details, including riggings and sail. You can even see the reefing lines on the sails. She is flying the red Britannia ensign and a house ensign topmost.

This is a fine 19th century Chinese export painting on silk of a seated noble lady with her attendant carrying a teapot. Her head gear has many jade and ruby beads, and her sleeves are adorned with dragons. She was of the reigning Manchu tribe, and married to a senior official. Image area is 7 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches. Picture is in pretty good condition except for a narrow tear 1/3 of the way from the left margin on top (see picture). ...click for details

This is a fine 19th century Chinese export painting on pith paper of a seated mandarin with an attendant kneeling in front. He is wearing a peacock feather hat and a civilian rank badge of a crane on his chest, as well as a dragon on his robe. Pretty high up there in rank and also of the reigning Manchu tribe. Image area is 7 1/4 by 10 1/2 inches. Picture is in pretty good condition except for a little missing enamel on the shoulder of the attendant (see close-up).
