Circa 1890, Hanau, Germany. Meticulously hand-chased and reticulated .800 silver centerpiece or fruit stand, this is a stunning example of Hanau, Germany regional silver making. The centerpiece was cast in multiple sections, painstakingly hand-chased, and then assembled. The reticulation is hand cut and of similar quality to the rest of the piece. This is an important Champagne cooler, executed by Mortimer & Hunt, the successors to Paul Storr (as well as the brief partnership of Storr and Mortimer), in London in 1840. This masterpiece features cast and applied fully articulated, naturalistic entwined grapevine handles, as well as cast and applied grape leaf and vine decorations.
