This fanciful hooked rug has an unusual plant with leaves and two types of flowers. A bird sits at the center. The blue tail is a nice repetition of the color of the tulips. The rug measures 15 1/2" wide and 16" tall. Made circa 1920; Pennsylvania origin.
This homemade hooked rug predates by at least 15 years the Homage to the Square series of paintings by famed artist Josef Albers. The similarity, though, is unmistakable. This rug is hooked of a variety of cotton and wool fabrics. It is loosely mounted on a homemade stretcher from which it can easily be removed for shipping. Measurements are 40" x 42".
