Large red pottery bowl by Hopi Indian Bertha Kinale from Walpi was purchased from her in 1974.Traditionally hand built with native clay, painted with boiled bee plant and pit fired. The collector tells us "I was at Walpi three hours after Mrs. Kinale removed the corrugated tin panels from her pottery horno. Sadly some of the pieces had burn marks from the blustery wind affecting the fire." She bought them anyway! Documented on the base is the artist, date and original price of $16.00. Dimensions are 7" tall by 8" diameter. Unsigned. Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping. Collected by an Arizona family who traveled the reservations on their summer vacations. RETAIL PRICE $350.00

In fine original condition with no restoration, the jar is from circa 1920. Probably painted by Annie as Nampeyo was loosing her eyesight. Note the painted stepped clouds above the Sityatki design and also the knots below. Wonderful polychrome on the light clay. Our collector purchased it years ago at Garland's in Sedona.
