Interesting 19th century mourning ring, probably gutta percha, carved with the name “Elishea”, flanked on each side by a heart. Very poignant. Set in low or gold fill. This ring has definitely seen some wear: there are some small dents and nicks and it’s very dirty. Ring size 5 1/2".

Beautiful American Victorian mourning brooch, featuring plaited brown hair in a 14k gold, enamel and seed pearl setting. Inscribed “In Memory of” in gold letters on the front (all letters are bright), it reads “My Beloved Papa/Died October 25th 1854/Aged 44 years”. Very good condition; three chips to black enamel. Hinge is reinforced. Measures 1 3/4” by 1 1/2”.

Rare and wonderful early 19th century mourning brooch, probably American, in 9k gold. The brooch is formed in an unusual curved square. It features gold cipher “JY” (or “TY”) laid over white-blond hair laid on a bed of black silk. The white enamel border, which symbolizes a child or an unmarried person, is inscribed with gold letters: “His Hair/Wove Here/His Memory/In My Soul”. Rare pair of 18th century rings, mourning the deaths of a father and son. Both were John Cobdens; the son died first in 1778 at the age of 11. His ring features a sepia and hair on ivory picture depicting an urn and a willow tree.
