Interesting 19th century mourning ring, probably gutta percha, carved with the name “Elishea”, flanked on each side by a heart. Very poignant. Set in low or gold fill. This ring has definitely seen some wear: there are some small dents and nicks and it’s very dirty. Ring size 5 1/2".

Rare and wonderful early 19th century mourning brooch, probably American, in 9k gold. The brooch is formed in an unusual curved square. It features gold cipher “JY” (or “TY”) laid over white-blond hair laid on a bed of black silk. The white enamel border, which symbolizes a child or an unmarried person, is inscribed with gold letters: “His Hair/Wove Here/His Memory/In My Soul”.
