Guinomi with soda flashes and serendipitous carbon trapping by Cory Lum. Excellent condition. Signed on the side of the vessel and fired in a special soda kiln. Cory Patrick Wai Mun Lum was born in Honolulu in 1969 and has been creating ceramic pieces for ten years. Cory produces cha dogu, sakenomi and various larger vessels, from tsubo to large platters. His work has been exhibited throughout Hawaii. He has studied trompe l'oeil with Ah Leon in Taiwan, karatsu with Takashi Nakazato, and yixing china with Gu Mei Qun. Cory also has studied Sado (tea ceremony) with Naoko Shinzato (Omote senke) for 2 years. Cory's ceramics have been inspired by Kato Tokuro, Okabe Mineo, Raku Kichizaemon, Isezaki Jun, Kakurezaki Ryuichi, Arakawa Toyozo, and Kaneshige Toyo. He travels extensively to Asia as a professional photographer, attending many ceramics and photography shows. One of his favorite areas for ceramics is in Osafune, Okayama, known for Bizen ware. Cory also continues to high-fire local Hawaiian clay at temperatures up to 1300 Celsius .

Handcarved ceramic stoneware (trompe l'oeil) futaoki sodafired to cone 10; The futaoki is a fixture of the Japanese tea ceremony, or chanoyu, and serves as a rest for the lid of the tea kettle. Cory is a student of Taiwanese trompe l'oeil master Ah Leon. 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) high.
