A large Mixtec-Aztec tripod vessel from Mexico, ca. 1300 – 1500 AD. The elaborately decorated polychrome bowl is 9-1/8” in diameter and the hollow legs contain large rattles. It is painted both inside and outside with the complex designs characteristic of the type. Strong mineral deposits and root marks overall, legs reattached.

An excellent Nayarit figure from West Mexico, ca. 200 BC – 300 AD. This choice San Sebastian is 12” high and is depicted seated on a two-legged stool. The hand to mouth gesture communicates that the individual is eating. He is adorned with the characteristic multiple ear ornaments, large nose ring and crisply incised coif. In exceptional condition, with strong dendrites over the highly burnished red slip.

A beautiful Tarascan spouted vessel from Tzintzuntzán, Mexico, ca. 1200 – 1500 AD. It is 7” high and features the large loop handle and upward sweeping spout characteristic of this highly sought after type. The chamber is a fluted squash form typical of West Mexican ceramics for over 2000 years. An elegant form with highly burnished mahogany colored slip that shows extensive mineral deposits. Minor repair.

A superb Colima bowl from West Mexico, ca. 300 BC – 300 AD. This choice Comala phase example is 7-1/4” in diameter and is decorated with a trio of serpents, executed in relief. The slip is highly burnished and shows good mineral deposits, with strong calcification on the inside.

A wonderful Nayarit figure from West Mexico, 200 BC – 300 AD. This beautifully detailed Ixtlan del Rio effigy is 11-1/2” high and depicts a seated ballplayer holding the game ball in his right hand. He is wearing the typical belt and is adorned with a simple headdress and the complex ear ornaments characteristic of the type. Strong paint shows textured clothing even through the extensive mineral deposits. A great example of a highly coveted type, with just a small restoration.

She is adorned with a simple headdress and appliqué shoulder scarification. The deep red slip is highly burnished and shows extensive mineral deposits. An intact piece with great presence.

The face is nicely detailed with a friendly demeanor, the ears are attentively perked and the front feet are incised to indicate toes. Intact, with good dendrites overall.

This choice archaic Tekoman example is 10-3/8” high and depicts a man wearing a complex headdress wrapped around the characteristic elongated head. She is adorned with a simple headdress and ear ornaments, her head is resting on a cushion. These anecdotal figures represent women who died in childbirth.
