Note the painted stepped clouds above the Sityatki design and also the knots below. Wonderful polychrome on the light clay.

Our collector purchased it years ago at Garland's in Sedona.

$2350.00

Beautiful Nampeyo pottery design of the eagles is painted on a large graceful pottery jar by Hopi Indian artist Rayvin Garcia. Traditionally handbuilt with coils of native clay, stone burnished surface is painted with mineral and vegetal paints, then pit fired. Rayvin picked a calm day as there are no obvious fire clouds.

This is a large jar at 11 3/4" by 6 3/4". Signed.

We took this in from a collector who has owned it for about ten years. There is a minor amount of surface wear on the bottom.

Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping.

By Mary Ellen and Lawrence Blair. This is the most comprehensive biography of "Old Lady" Nampeyo, the pottery artist from the Hopi Pueblo of Arizona, and her life's work. Nampeyo is believed to be the first recognized Native American artist, made famous by photographer Edward Curtis and hotelier Fred Harvey. Wonderful full color photographs of documented Nampeyo pots and those of her family. Wonderful biographies of her children who became famous potters too. There is some great Hopi History here too, good reading. Published in 1999, 305 pages, soft cover. Buyer pays $7.50 per volume for shipping.
