Yavapai Indian basket of willow and devils claw, woven by the famous Bessie Mike in the 1960s, very late for a coil basket. Bessie Mike was one of the last of the old generation Yavapai basket weavers. The willow is just beginning to get a patina. The basketry tray with four eagles in a flower with a checkerboard center is nicely woven. The rim is beautiful with the alternating willow and devils claw. 10 1/2" diameter. Mint condition. Buyer pays $15.00 for shipping. Old Territorial Indian Arts is known for selling high quality antique Indian baskets of the Southwest; check our site for more vintage and antique Indian baskets.

The Mission Indians are groups of Southern California tribes who are known for their pretty baskets woven of the multi-colored juncus reed. This pretty tray has lots going on: cloud designs of dyed juncus, bands of lighter colored sumac and black and white ticking. It is interesting to follow the natural color variation of the juncus. Dimensions are 13 1/4" diameter by 2" deep. Four coils and 7-8 stitches per inch. Very fine condition for a basket circa 1910-20, only three missing rim stitches and a couple on the bottom that don't show through to the top surface. The coils are sound. Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping. Old Territorial Shop is known for selling high quality antique Indian baskets of the Southwest; check our site for other listings.
