Hopi Indian wicker basketry tray with the eagle, from Third Mesa. This vintage Hopi basket is from 1960s, some fade to the orange.

The Eagle tray is important to the Hopi, it is a thank you for the eagle's life and gift of feathers. Note the rain band.

Nicely woven wicker with plant dyes is 14 1/2" diameter.

Purchased at Hopi in the 1930s, this large coil bowl has seen some wear, but is a great example of weaving and plant dyes from the time. Black and red against the golden background is bold.

Dimensions are 6 1/2" deep by 10" diameter. Some missing stitches from years of handling. Structurally sound.

At 24" diameter this is the biggest Navajo basket we have seen! A Wedding basket design surrounds the American Eagle for a bold statement! The details in his wings and tail feathers are sharp, his eye is turquoise, although faded a bit, and there is a silver button at the center to support the hanger.

Woven in the 1960s, all sumac, dyed red and black, very nice even weave. No damage or repairs, excellent original condition.

Lovely little oval Pima Indian basket woven of willow and devils claw. The design is the Turtle back repeated six times. Finished with devils claw whip stitch.

This old Pima Indian basket is from our collection, we acquired it 15 years ago. It is in mint condition and has a golden age patina.

A doll sized cradleboard woven by the Karok Indians of northern California. Open twine weave of willow in the traditional shape, includes a seat for baby. Decorative wrapping is maidenhair fern.

Woven in the 1940s, this doll carrier is in fine original condition, some minor breakage has been stablized, leather strap has been replaced.

20 1/2" tall by 10" across.

Six coyotes border this western Apache Indian basketry tray. A double flower, or possibly an agave plant, is beautifully balanced and enhanced with the tab elements commonly found in Apache artwork.

Finely woven with willow and devils claw over a three rod willow foundation, five coils and twelve wefts are smooth and even. 11" diameter by 2 1/2" deep.

Excellent original condition, no missing stitches or broken coils. Great 100 year old basket!

Whirling fret design is quite bold in this old Pima Indian basket!

Willow wefts with devils claw design coiled over a cattail bundle foundation. The rim is finished with braided devils claw.

About four coils and eight wefts per inch, very smooth even weave. This large bowl shaped basket measures 17 1/2" by 5" deep.

Excellent original condition has no missing stitches on the inside, minor stitch loss on the back. No broken coils, very nice for a hundred year old basket!

Perfect to hang on the wall or will display well on a table.

Yavapai Indian basket of willow and devils claw, woven by the famous Bessie Mike in the 1960s, very late for a coil basket. Bessie Mike was one of the last of the old generation Yavapai basket weavers. The willow is just beginning to get a patina.

The basketry tray with four eagles in a flower with a checkerboard center is nicely woven. The rim is beautiful with the alternating willow and devils claw. 10 1/2" diameter. Mint condition.

Antique Maidu Indian woven basket and bone spoon, exciting material culture find! Rarely do we see items of daily use like this food bowl and utensil.

The oval bowl is woven of willow and redbud over a three rod willow foundation. 8 coils and 11 wefts per inch. The bowl is 6 1/2" long by 4 1/2" wide by 3" deep. Old native repair on the rim, note the abraided inner surface from the spoon.

The spoon is knife carved of bone in two pieces and pinned together with a piece of brass. 4 5/8" long by 1 1/8" wide. Nice indigenous wear and a little burn an the handle end.

The Mission Indians are groups of Southern California tribes who are known for their pretty baskets woven of the multi-colored juncus reed.

This pretty tray has lots going on: cloud designs of dyed juncus, bands of lighter colored sumac and black and white ticking. It is interesting to follow the natural color variation of the juncus.

Dimensions are 13 1/4" diameter by 2" deep. Four coils and 7-8 stitches per inch. Very fine condition for a basket circa 1910-20, only three missing rim stitches and a couple on the bottom that don't show through to the top surface. The coils are sound.

Polychrome Pima Indian antiue basket has willow dyed with mesquite sap, natural willow and devils claw.

The very fine weave, nicely spaced designs and deep patina all give this oval basket a pleasing feel. Woven around the turn of the last century, it is in very good condition, a few missing stitches on the bottom and in the body, but no broken coils and the whip stitch devils claw rim is perfect.

Dimensions are 9 1/2" long by 5 3/4" across and 3" deep. The stitch count is 15 average per inch.

The Pima Indians of central Arizona have long been known for their beautiful willow baskets. People were collecting them by 1880. Well constructed with willow and devils claw over a grass bundle foundation, Pima Indian weavers had a great sense of design and proportion.

This charming bowl measures 6 1/4" diameter by 2 3/4" deep. For an early 20th century basket it is in amazingly perfect condition!

The devils claw design is of five stepped elements, could be rain and lightning.

Headless lizards oh my! Neat little Pima Indian willow basketry bowl with seven black devils claw lizards and the rim finished with alternating willow and devils claw whip stitch.

Nicely woven around the 1950-60 era, which is late for a willow Pima basket. She probably finished up the basket quickly so she could make the sale!

Dimensions are 6" diameter by 2 1/4" deep. Very fine original condition, no damage.
