SOLD!

Fine miniature pottery seed jar by Joseph Lonewolf, circa 1972. Sgrafitto carved, two tone fired clay pinch pot is 1" tall by 1 1/4" wide.

Lonewolf is the originator of this style, both the sgrafitto carving and the two tone firing. Beginning back in the 1960s, Lonewolf encouraged his sister, Grace Medicine Flower and their father Camilio Sunflower Tafoya to leave the old traditional style of Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery behind. They became one of the most famous of all the pottery dynasties.

This little pot was originally part of a set of twelve "pottery jewels" meant to be collected as a group. Over time many of these tiny gems have become separated and are available individually.

Dynamic design of the Avanyu and the Sun cover the upper surface which is red and buff while the polished under half is black. Signed and dated.

Buyer pays $12.00 for shipping and insurance.

$9500.00

Wonderful Grandfather Storyteller by Helen Cordero, the original artist of the Storyteller form. Helen Cordero, Cochiti Pueblo Indian, b.1915-d.1994, created the first storyteller pottery figure in the late 1950s. She was the inspiration for generations of potters in her Pueblo and all the others. Rising to prominence in the 1970s, her large Grandfather storyteller was featured on the cover of National Geographic magazine in the 1980s. No pottery collection is complete without one of Helen's "people".

This classic male seated figure is 10" tall. Five children are seated on his knees. What is unusual is there are two girls and three boys, a special order for a mother with five kids. Helen usually made boys, not so many girls. The children are beautifully dressed in their best clothes, as is the singing Grandfather with his dressy cape and fancy shirt.

Although this was a masterpiece of fine workmanship by Helen, it has some issues with condition. There is a large crack under his right leg which has been stabilized and the smallest boy has a damaged foot. This is all original to the making of the piece and the owner took delivery even though it was not perfect! It has been loved all these years by the family. May be professionally restored or left as is. Priced according to its condition.

Buyer pays $40.00 for shipping and insurance.

Retail price $9500.00.

$75.00

Neat old small pottery jar, most likely Tesuque Pueblo from the early 20th century. This little bowl has been around and seen some better days, but yet has survived!

The whitish slip was stone burnished, the painted is brown not black and the inside is slipped red. The clay has a pinkish cast. Looks like it was over fired. Yes, it leans.

3 3/4" tall by 3 1/4" across the rim.

What I love about it is the fact that someone liked it enough to keep it, chips and all!

Buyer pays $12.00 for shipping.
