Wild color and design are the hallmarks of Navajo weavings from Teec Nos Pos. With layered borders, outlined design elements and up to 15 colors, a Teec is never boring. This modern Navajo Indian textile is woven by Lula Parrish, a noted weaver of this style. Her interpretation of traditional Navajo symbols is fascinating! Note the "arrows" and the large pink figures which are Yei. Lots of fun. Woven with commercial wool, the colors are strong and the rug has some weight. At 6'5" by 4'4" this modern tapestry will add punch to a room, whether hanging or on the floor. There was a breeze during photo shoot, this textile is nice and straight. Also the color is strong, slight lightening due to glare. Fine original condition, this piece was purchased ten years ago and has been in storage. Buyer pays $25.00 for shipping and insurance. Retail price $8500.00.

Colorful Yei are sacred corn plants, separated by squash blossoms and surrounded by the Rainbow Yei guardian. Each Yei is a stalk of corn of a different color, each have ears of corn with tassels. All are dancing with eagle feathers to bring rain. The finely spun native wool takes the aniline dyes brilliantly which glow against the natural deep brown-grey background. 72" wide by 50" tall, the weave is very fine for such a large textile. The edges are much straighter than show in the photo, the wind was blowing during the photo shoot. What is really neat is the old brass tag affixed to one corner. After much research we were not able to pin down which Trading Post, but it is still interesting. Buyer pays $25.00 for shipping and insurance.

The Navajo Indian weavers were encouraged to experiment with native plants and to document the recipes during the 1930s and 40s by Sally and Bill Lippincott at the Chinle Trading Post. One of the Navajo ladies was Mabel Burnside Myers, daughter of famed silversmith John Burnside. As a way to preserve the samples of plant colors, she created a dye chart with plant dyed wool connecting the plants to a small weaving loom and rug sample, under framed glass. Taken up by her daughter-in-law, Rose Myers, in the 1970s, Rose continues to supply us with this pretty wall art. She gathers the plant material around the Reservation, then boils the wool in the solution. After that she spins the wool and makes a tiny loom on which she starts a small textile with each color strand going out to the plant. Displayed on combed white sheep wool and framed under glass. Signed by Rose Myer. Dimensions of the frame are 12 1/2" by 15 1/2" and features twelve plants and a sample rug on a loom. Retail in our Gallery is $85.00. Buyer pays $15.00 for shipping.
