This wonderful signed Japanese vase captures Japans country side transitioning into fall. The motif depicts a quaint Japanese village in the mountains. There is a bridge crossing a flowing stream leading up to a Pagoda which towers over the surrounding maple trees. Flowing down the neck of the vase are vibrant red and gold maple leaves. This distinctive vase features the rare use of flanges in the form of water dragons. One side shows a pair fabulous shishi (distinctively done in gossu blue with gold tufts) framing a 3-leaf paulownia motif. The reverse shows a pair of distinguished phoenix framing a towering chrysanthemum plant. The neck is also decorated with an imperial chrysanthemum mon, imposed on a gossu blue shield pattern. A marvelous miniature vase by Kinkozan in wonderful condition. The body has a delightful and distinctive form, both fluted and scalloped. One panel shows an aristocratic woman and her courtiers, the reverse shows a meeting of high-ranking military officers. The background is an unusual pattern of stylized bamboo latticework. A fantastic koro with a beautiful reticulation on the lid and body. The uniform reticulation, quite difficult to achieve, here works to a great effect to frame alternating fan panel and album page forms in the round.
