Wonderful example of WMF design which was influenced by the British Arts & Crafts movement as well. This bold wine or Champagne cooler has a relief banding of Celtic-inspired patterns. The flanking open handles have a complementing design. Workshop marks beneath. A photo of an example on page XVvi as well as a design illustration on page 154 of the firm's 1906 cataloge. Lovely WMF tray with a silvered wave and notch gallery at the circumference. Glazed ceramic in two-tone gray pattern with green and blue grid form. Three ball feet support the frame work. The famous WMF (Wurttemgergische Metallwarenfabrik) workshop collaborated with the Waechtersbach ceramic workshop to create this exquisite tray. Impressed WMF marks beneath. Germany circa 1915.
