Antique Japanese Shigaraki jar. Shigaraki is one of the seven most famous ceramic centers of ancient Japan. Favored by the Imperial Court after Sen No Rikyu, the originator of the tea ceremony chose Shigaraki wares as the epitomy of the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic for the tea ceremony. The striped green glazes for the soy and tea vessels are world-famous. c.1910. (17" x 10½") (43cm x 27cm). EMS Shipping/Insurance to USA or Western Europe $190.

Fabulous antique Japanese Shigaraki tokkuri sake jug dated early Meiji Period c.1885. The trademark Shigaraki green nagashi striped overglaze is on a white hagi underglaze at the top while the base is a dark blueish-black contrasting glaze. There is a spot in the black where the glaze didn't take in the kiln leaving us a glance at the original clay, which rather adds to this piece's wonderful allure and charm. No cracks. c.1885. (diameter 9" x 13") (diameter 23cm x 33cm). EMS Shipping/Insurance to USA or Western Europe $80.
