The bowl was probably used to hold snacks such as a pile of edamame - a preparation of baby soybeans in the pod commonly found in Japan, China and Korea. A traditional custom of the Japanese is the belief that odd numbers can bring lucky so that sake cups come in a set of five. All of the items are ...click for details
A lovely little tulip shaped pottery cup with a lemon yellow crackle glaze. We are not positive whether this cup is Chinese or Japanese - however that shade of yellow has tipped us towards Chinese in origin and to the late Qing dynasty in age - circa 1875-1910. It could possibly be quite a bit older.
