One of the finest quality barong we have had the privilege of offering. The hand forged, traditional leaf shaped blade shows evidence of folding. The silver banded, cockatoo hilt is of select Bantai wood and undamaged. The scabbard is finely carved at the throat and tip and banded with a tightly woven multi colored weave on the front and a banded weave on the obverse. A very scarce Chinese Cavalry Saber the design of which seems to have been strongly influenced by the Japanese M1899 Cavalry Saber. Quite large, with an overall length of 45 inches and a blade of 37 inches. With a steel guard mounted to a tang that extends through an elmwood handle and a tab style, button activated lock which holds the sword firmly in the scabbard. A good example of the Japanese M1899 Saber for Army NCOs and Superior Privates as well as NCOs of the Kempi (Military Police). Steel hilted with both the back strap and wood grip checkered. The steel scabbard has a protruding lug on one side which engages the spring clip on the hilt. The metal of both the hilt and scabbard are blackened with blue beneath the black. A good example of an early 20th C, Nepalese kukri from the Gurkha Hill Tribes. The contoured bone handle and ebony butt cap are mounted on the tang with a traditional bonding material made of kind of tree sap called "Lava". A well forged iron mokko shaped tsuba with a Centipede like inlay (Mukade Zogan) of alternating iron and brass staples. This technique produces a look that was much used by the Samurai of the period since the Centipede is sacred to Bishamon, (God of War) and therefore propitious for a warrior. From a Seattle Estate, and in excellent + condition, this increasingly hard to find Trench Knife is very collectable. Designed in 1917 by Henry Disston & Sons of Philadelphia and chosen by the War Department to be issued to U.S. troops destined for trench warfare in Europe. The metal guard is bent around to form a knuckle bow of triangular flanges. A nice old example of a Malay Golok. The scabbard and hilt have a pleasing patina and the wood work on the scabbard is more refined and detailed than usually found. There is a small 1" crack in the stylized birds head hilt. The blade is of traditional form with a chisel edge and appears to be unpolished carbon steel. There are a few minor patches of surface rust. A very nice example. Overall length 22", blade 15". Early 20th C.

From the Panay or Negros islands of the Tenegre Island Group , this massive Tenegre is very well crafted. The Deity Head hilt is intricately carved of Kamagong, (ironwood).
