A sweet little Meiji period gin-bari cloisonne bud vase with ten egrets showing on a ground of light blue to light pink. We have read that it was difficult for the cloisonne artists to achieve shading effect like this. The vase is in excellent condition with the exception of a tiny 3/16” nick to the inner rim of the vase. The piece measures 3 ¾” high and is 3 1/8” diameter at its widest. It is not signed. We date it to the golden age of Japanese cloisonne, circa 1905-1925, Meiji period to Taisho ...click for details
An early Japanese cloisonne vase with a design of a fierce blue and white dragon encircling the vase. We can date this piece to the early Meiji period, circa 1870s because of the tight cells (cloisons) that are used to keep the ground in place and because there is one band of gin bari blue at the top of the vase - one of the earliest uses of the gin bari technique. The vase stands 4" tall and is 2 1/8" diameter at the widest part of the bulbous lower section. Excellent condition with n ...click for details
Late Meiji standard and gin bari cloisonne vase. Covered with iridescent primary, green and blue shades, with purple, pink, and white accents. A most unusual design in the form of four fleur de lis between two bands of green/blue ginbari dots. Not signed. It is in excellent condition - one tiny dimple that does not break the surface - no chips, cracks, dings, no enamel loss, definitely well cared for. Measures 5 1/8" tall and is 2 1/4" diameter at the shoulder. We date this piece fr ...click for details
A delightful small ginbari cloisonne vase with a charmingly friendly dragon wrapped around it. Beautiful electric blue ginbari ground and great workmanship. Measures almost 5 inches tall. It is unsigned. There is a bit of wear around the base (see photo) and a tiny spot of breakage (down from the second/third claw on the foot of the dragon) - almost invisible to the eye but can be felt with a finger. A truly fun piece of Japanese cloisonne. Dates from the early to mid Meiji period - circa 1880 ...click for details
This lovely little gin-bari (foil) cloisonné enamel vase is decorated with a large red semi-transparent chrysanthemum on a transparent turquoise-shading-to-white ground. Meiji period, ca. 1910. In the background area surrounding the finely-rendered chrysanthemum, a diaper design in a fish scale pattern impressed in the silver foil can be seen through a layer of transparent enamel that is tinted turquoise above but fades into a colorless area below. This graduated shading is quite subtle, effecti ...click for details
Very fine late Meiji 19th Century Japanese Cloisonne Ginbari Vase. The piece
measures 2 1/2" in height, and features a beautiful floral decoration. The vase was made by wrapping silver foil around the metal body, and then decorating with silver/copper wire and colored enamel flowers. The vase was then finished with a see-through enamel cover. As the photographs show, the piece is in excellent condition with absolutely no chips, cracks or scratches - a tiny hint of rust near the bottom edge ...click for details
