This IKEBANA BASKET is in ovoid form with a twisted loop handle woven in diagonal plait and is signed "Gyokkosai kore zo." It is in it's original kiriwood box "tomobako" with an insription and seal mark on the inside of lid. OFFERED @ Sotheby's, "Japanese Works of Art," New York, September 14, 1999, Lot 296, page 98.

This stunning MORIKAGO,(fruit basket)looks almost new with a beautiful patina. Made by the second "best," ikebana basket artist at the turn of the century in Japan,it is of low circular form with basic twill plaiting, inscribed, "Shokosai kore zo," with a diameter of 16.12" Comes with the original kiriwood inscribed/seal marked box. circa pre 1920.

12" x 2.5" "Ishi-zara" meaning stoneware in Japanese,with a pinkish-buff beige glaze. Probably from a Seto area kiln, used originally for serving food. The small marks inside are from stones or beans used to seperate stacked pottery being fired in kilns.There are two veru small chips in the underside of the rim (see photo) Unusual to find outside of Japan.

14" x 4.5" Very Good condition, with one hairline crack about 1" in length with a slight loss of glaze on outside rim. Also a circular crack inside bottom of bowl. Beautiful soft yellow glaze with 7 typical marks inside of bowl from organic material used as "saggars," during the firing process in kiln. This piece probably comes from the Seto area kilns.
