Pretty handspun wool rug, hand loomed by the Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico. The Zapotecs are descendants of the Maya Indians, who were weaving with native cotton and fibers when Cortez arrived with sheep. They are famous for their pretty and functional wool textiles. The Zapotec weavers use a European loom, handspun native wool and aniline and vegetal dyes.
Our selection of Zapotec textiles is high quality, not saddle blanket grade, so you will be proud to decorate with these. Hang it on the wall or put it on the floor for a spot of color and Southwest Style.
Dimensions are 22" wide by 40" long plus the fringe on both ends. The rug is more squared than the photo shows.
This nicely woven rug has a rich palette of colors and some fancy twill weave.
