Chinese Han Dynasty Burnished Pottery Cocoon Jar (with paint traces)

This superbly-shaped pottery jar was made some 2,000 years ago during the Early Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8) or possibly the earlier Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BC). The shape, named after its similarity to the silkworm cocoon, evolved during the late Warring States period (475 - 221 BC) and then generally died out by the middle of the Western Han. ...click for details

Stunning Imari charger with original paulownia wood box signed and dated C.1951. This plate was the work of Ogata Koen who won the Saga Prefecture Mayor prize with this plate in 1951. This launched him on a distinguished career and established him as the preeminent Imari artisan of the day. From Arita in Kyushu in southern Japan, this is the home of Imari. Very Large/Rare Korean Flattend Side Decorated Pottery Mae-Byung-10th-11th C.: Korea, Koryo dynasty, 10th – 11th century. The large ovoid vase with two flattend sides, inset neck and upright mouth, ornamented with stamped dot both isdes on the whole body, the entire vessel saved the flat vase, some areas appeared with natural glaze and more darkend and oxidezed. It’s in good condition but a small mouth rim chpped, It measures 12” x 7.5” x 6.75” (30.5cm x 19cm x 17.5cm).

Mold number 913 size C with incised decoration of squares in a band at the shoulder of the vase. Vase is a yellow clay body, covered in a green to red Butterfat matte glaze. Flame Mark, with numerals for 1915, mold and size, with finishers mark for Ewan. Height of vase is 9 inches. Very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs; some minor surface blemishes (paint spots, rub marks). Circa 1915
