A fascinating shakudo oval flask vase carved on one panel with myriads of sea creatures in high relief. On the reverse, intricately sculpted flowers and vegetables in gold, silver, shakudo and copper define the characteristics of each. The naturalistic details and fine workmanship evident on this small jewel of a vase are characteristics of the household name in Meiji Period metalwork—Hattori, its signature seal on the base. An antique cast iron lantern in the shape of a rusted out Dotaku wind bell enclosed in a signed period wooden box titled Tetsu-Toro (Iron Lantern) Birekitaku-Utsushi (Beautiful Bell from History) followed by the makers name (illegible) and stating it was made in Mid Autumn. In the lower left is a name which appears to read Miyazaki Kikuro followed by a brand.
