A Chinese export famille verte plate decorated with an unusual design of a penjing garden in a colourful jardiniere within a floral border. Brown enamelled rim. Diameter: 22.4 cm. Kangxi (1662-1722).Two tiny rim nicks (probably from a platehanger). Slight enamelling loss to lower right corner of jardinière. No other faults. A Japanese bisque porcelain model of a Pekinese seated with a raised paw and a cloth collar knotted behind its neck. Impressed mark to base. Height: 14.1 cm.; length: 17 cm. c.1900.The gilding on the animal’s collar and bow is rubbed and there is some similar colour loss to the animal’s eyes and mouth. There is a firing crack across the front of the raised foot (see detail) but no damage. No other faults.
