A miniature Komai-style baluster vase extensively decorated in two colours of gold leaf on a black ground with figures in an ancient Egyptian style with cartouches, pillars, sarcophagi, obelisks etc. Height: 8.8 cm. 20th cent., maybe c. 1930?.
The vase is in very good condition except for the base which has obviously been glued to something at some time, which has caused the lacquered surface to flake.
An unusual Singhalese casket or tea caddy manufactured from the shell of an Indian starred tortoise (geochelone elegans), the interior inlaid with hardwood marquetry, the head and limbs of ebony. Length: 27 cm. I am told this was purchased in Sri Lanka in 1947.
