An interesting pair of Japanese porcelain octagonal bowls or cups standing on a pedestal foot and decorated in underglaze blue with a landscape scene with watchtower. Arita, mid-19th cent. Height: 2 ½ in.; diameter: 4 3/8 in.Perfect condition. This curious view seems to be related to a group of much earlier Arita export wares which show a similar watchtower structure in a design popularly known as “Deshima Island”.
