An interesting ink-painting kakemono of Daikoku and Ebisu on a ship loaded with rice bales depicted against a misty red sun by Mori Shuho (1738-1823). Dimensions: 61 x 1019 cm. Painted area: 49.5 x 38.5 cm.Sumi-e and red colour on paper. Dated 1799.
Mori Shuho was the elder brother of the famous Mori Sosen . He was an artist of a more conventional type but still achieved the titles of hokkyo and hogen. The scroll offered probably represents a wish for prosperity and good fortune in the New Year. Like many of Shuho’s works it is dated, in this case 1799.
Some creasing. The lower end of the mount has slightly parted from the lacquered wood roller.
