A good quality Japanese makie lacquer basin, on three low feet and decorated in hiramakie with scattered kiku blooms on a roironuri ground. Diameter: 6 7/8 in. c.1900. The basin has five small chips to the lacquer at the rim and the inevitable minor wear to the underside of the feet. No other damage. The surface and decoration are in excellent condition and the quality of the decoration good and unostentatious.
