Set of 6 Wedgwood Green Majolica Plates c.1820

A set of six Wedgwood green-glazed majolica plates finely moulded with a design of vine leaves and basketwork, each with the impressed mark WEDGWOOD 7 to the reverse. Diameter: 8 3/8 in. c.1820.

Three of these plates are perfect. Three have some minor rubbing to some of the high points of the moulding. One has a hairline rim crack 2 ½ in. long; one has a chip to the reverse; one has a star glaze crack to the reverse which does not penetrate to the front of the plate. These faults can be seen in the close-ups. There are no other damages. The plates have an early style of base and a light, crisply moulded body that distinguishes them from those made later in the century.
