A Russian/Caucasian niello snuff box inlaid with an Islamic inscription within a decorative border. Dimensions: 2 x 1 1/8 x ½ in. 19th cent. Excellent undamaged condition, traces of snuff residue. At 50 gr. weight, the box is unusually heavy for its size. Provenance: Sir Denis Wright, former British Ambassador to Iran (1963-71). |
