A small Japanese kakemono of two birds sitting on a branch of flowering cherry in the manner of Tsubaki Chinzan (1801-54). Dimensions: 19 x 52 ¼ in. Painted area: 13 x 11 ¼ in. Red two-character seal mark. Sumi-e and colour on paper. Inscription on reverse of mount. Fitted paulownia wood box. Probably 19th century or earlier. Creased and discoloured. One ivory end to the roller is missing and the other has lost its cap. No other damage. |
