Established in 1979 in Washington,D.C. by Elisabeth Douglas, the China Coast is like a merchant in one of China's Treaty Ports, offering porcelains, wood carvings, bronze statues, furniture, paintings, textiles, ivories and jade from China, Japan,Korea, Southeast Asian and India. Elisabeth has been involved in the Asian art field for over thirty years, as a gallery owner, and as an appraiser specializing in Asian art. She is a senior member of the American Society of Appraiser and an Accredited Member of the International Society of Appraisers. Since 1986, the China Coast is located in Austin, Texas where she serves a clientel from Texas and beyond.
Why our pieces are different
The China Coast mainly buys from individuals whose families have lived and worked in Asia during the early part of the 20th century.In our distinctive and ecclectic collection you will find oxblood vases, Chinese robes, Japanese ivories, Thai bronze statues, Zen scroll paintings and Indian carvings.We are always looking for interesting pieces, and sometimes we find them on the other side of the globe and sometimes in the homes of clients we have sold to 30 years ago.
