Very handsome and well decorated overglaze enamel bowl, resting on three feet, of fluted shape, and painted with peonies and butterflies and double happiness symbol. The feet are made of applied lotus blossom, lotus seed and lotus pod. Second half 19th century, probably Tongzhi period (1862-1874). Fine condition.
The double happiness of shuang xi emblem was used in connection with wedding and anniversary gifts.
Measurements: H 3", D 8.5".

Charming Chinese melon-shaped jar with wood lid, painted in enamel colors, primarily in pink, green and aubergine, showing playing children in the popular Chinese "playing children/warwar" motif, in landscape setting under flowering tree with lantern and lotus -- a "good wishes and long life" jar. Not very legible underglaze red four character seal script mark on base. Fine condition. 19th century.
H 8 1/2", W at widest point 8 1/2".
