Very lovely four-sided Satsuma earthenware vase resting on round base, with slanting shoulders, decorated in overglaze colors and gold, with two panels filled with arhats and Kuan Yin and two panels with beautiful women.The top rim has areas of restoration and overpainting. H 8".

Rare Japanese textile, a fukusa, finely embroidered in colors and shades of gold, white, green, beige and brown, on black silk ground. Very finely executed in couched (overlay) gold metallic thread and satin stitch. The fukusa shows on cloud and wave ground a sennin astride a long-tailed tortoise below a crane in flight. Crane and tortoise symbolize longevity in Japanese mythology. A fukusa is a covering placed over a gift at the time of gift-giving such as a wedding or a New Year celebration. ...click for details

This is a stunning pair of matching Imari chargers, in colors of gold, red and green, with center roundel of pine, prunus and bamboo, with cavetto of fan shaped medallions filled with plant and floral motifs. The exterior rim with underglaze blue phoenix birds, the base with fuku mark. Fine condition. 19th century Meiji period. D 16".

A true pair of glazed earthenware Satsuma vases, cream colored body and finely crackled glaze, decorated with great detail in gold, red, purple and green, with pair of opposing phoenix birds, one in flight, between gilt borders. The base is with red Satsuma crest above two character "Satsuma" within rectangle on red ground. The vases appear to date from the late Meiji (1868-1912) or early Taisho period (1912-1926).
