An elegant pair of underglaze blue-white jardinieres with matching saucer, decorated in asymmetrical fashion with large spray of peonies, and a small peony on the reverse; the saucer with matching design. Both the pot and the saucer are with crenulated top rim. The pieces date from pre-1970, when they were purchased by our gallery. We think they date from the first half of the 20th century. Both pieces are in fine condition.
Height: 7 3/4 inches. Diameter at top: 10 1/2 inches.

China Coast Couture offers a silk thread on black cotton and "leathered" cotton short jacket, embellished in several techniques, including elaborate and detailed cross stitch, chain stitch and applique, showing floral, geometric and snail design motifs. China Coast Couture offers a Dong tribal gown from Guizhou Province, China. This is a silk thread embroidery depicting dragons together with pearl, flame, lingxi, scroll and keyfret motifs, on a black cotton fabric that has been "leathered" (treated with certain coatings and beaten) to make it water repellant and to give it a shiny surface. Exceptional Chinese painting on porcelain, consisting of four porcelain tiles, framed with carved wood frame. Signed and sealed by Liu Yu Chun, active ca. 1890-1965, in Jing De Zheng. Fine condition. The artist belonged to Zhu Sha Ba You, a group of eight to ten artists from Jing De Zheng, working towards the end of the Qing dynasty to about 1965. Liu Yu Chun was the last of the group.
