Qing Dynasty,(1644-1911)A portrait sculpture of an important official or teacher. Probably a carving commissioned to be placed on a household or local shrine to honor the person portrayed. Seated in a horseshoe back chair and attired in a garment style suggesting the 19th C. The cover on the prayer box carved in the back is missing as are the contents. Traces of the original paint under heavy patina. Probably 1870 period. Height 12"

A very finely crafted bucket for the purpose of drawing water from wells. Hand forged iron and hand fitted hardwood with a very interesting drain in the bottom, all with beautiful patina, rich with use and time. A very attractive piece of Chinese Folk Art from a time long gone. Qing Dynasty 1880-1890. Diameter, 17", Height to top of handle, 22".

In excellent condition. Our bronze Dou or pedestal form vessel was used on late Qing alters for various ritual purposes. In excellent condition, this vessel is in a some what archaic style, yet retains a pleasant symmetry and form. The elaborate relief decoration and detail on the body, pedestal and foot is a stylistic reprise of an earlier time. This is the only one of these desirable tobacco boxes that we have encountered that is complete with the jade toggle and slider to close the box. In an attractive burl wood that has a mellow patine, the box has a fitted burl wood lid which is carved to fit. An unusual Tang Dynasty, (618-906 CE) low fired, terra cotta tomb figure in the form of a Night Watchman, The figure wears the traditional winter garments of the northern provinces, with heavy hat and cloak and a watch lantern suspended around his neck. Mold cast with no effort to conceal the casting marks. Only traces of the original slip and pigment paint remain. Note old chip at rear on lower hem of the cape. H:12"

A classic Mingei Tonkotsu, simply carved to hold tobacco. The Muso-zutzu or pipe case is suspended on a black silk cord with a fluted glass ojime and is also quietly understated in a brown woven style. Both in very good condition with the usual wear from use and age. Late 19th Century.
