From the Konyak People of Northeast India, a hide shield with pigment designs and dyed goat hair tassels. In very good condition this shield is from a Santa Fe collection. It is constructed of thick leather from the Water Buffalo and ornamented with white kaolin, charcoal and red goat hair tassels. The shield grip is of woven cane and is well patinated from use. With good age, a Kalyo-Kengu mans headress. The woven cane body is adorned with dyed goat hair, hornbill feathers and boars tusks, all attached with strips of cane. The cane is a bit brittle and the goat hair some what faded with age. The horn bill feathers are unbroken and in good condition. From a Santa Fe collection. Please feel free to call with any inquiry. The helmet body is 7.5" in diameter and the hornbill feathers 18" in length. Mid 20th C.

In the Colonial India period, this wedding coat was worn by the Lohana merchant cast of Thalo Bula Khan, Sind, in what is modern day Pakistan. The influence of the neighboring Kush in Gujarat is apparent in the use of mirrors and by the embrodery style. The garment shows wear from age and use with slight fading. It is in good overall condition with no apparent damage. The body measures 22"x36".

From the Ghanzni area, Katawaz, Afghanistan. A vintage boys vest of gold braid on green silk, the back is also of green silk with gold braid borders. A good example of a traditional Pashtun garment. It shows some wear at the neck and at the waist vents. There is also some seam stress at the shoulders and side vents. This wear from use and age. An attractive example in good vintage condition. Probably dates to the pre 1940's. size of the body 13" x17"

A sword used for head hunting as well as a general purpose foraging and work. With a blade that clearly shows the hand forged, folded metal method, with a somewhat parrot beak tip and a contoured upper edged characteristic of the type. This short sword is worn by the peoples of Djibouti and adjacent areas of Ethiopia and Somalia. The nicely carved wood hilt is adorned with patinated brass tacks and an inverted brass cone at the pommel. The curved blade appears to have been made from a metal wagon or car spring. The natural leather scabbard and belt are very dry from age. The original scabbard seems to have been sewn up the back with a piece of fine wire, as can be seen in the photo of the throat. Although documented as a sword, this example of a Seme is smaller than usual. Almost as though it was created for an important youth, it is none the less is a well forged and sharp blade housed in a hide scabbard, dyed with natural pigment, in traditional red. The belt is worked to simulate reptile skin and is original to the sword. The scabbard also has a metal and bead adornment at the tip. Six different color beads, tanned deer hide and feathered tin comes adorn this well crafted, traditional Sioux scabbard. The scabbard contains a hand made trade knife with a worn steel blade and hardwood hilt. The hilt bearing lead inlays, two of which are missing. The blade has areas of rust. From the Shiprock region of the Navajo reservation, a good quality rug with Yei's banded on three sides by the "Rainbow Goddess". A small tightly woven rug with excellent color and with only one small and very slight edge damage. Ex: Butterfield & Butterfield in 1995 and from most recently from a private estate in Scottsdale AZ Size 27.75" x 37". Mid 20th C.
