| An original, WW1 German M1916 Ersatz bayonet with original scabbard. This is German military issue and not one of the bayonets sold to Turkey during the war. The blade and hilt retain about 50% of the original gray green paint. The blade is in very good condition with no rust, modest surface abrasion and only slight nicks from use. The blade bears a fuller on both sides and has a well formed point and there is a German Ordnance inspectors mark on the back of the blade. There is modest rust on both the scabbard and hilt which is responsible for the paint loss. Much should clean. The steel hilt combines an open muzzle ring that fits the Gewehr 98 and earlier standard rifles. There is an issue serial number stamped into the guard. The mechanism is complete and works well. A good example of an original M1916 Ersatz bayonet. Overall length 18", blade 12.5" | ||||||||||
