Rare dancing Harlequin candle snuffer cast in sterling silver, London, 1894-95, maker's mark 'M.F.' The harlequin figure is holding a pair of snake form rings above his head. Harlequin sugar tongs or nips are uncommon, however, the harlequin candle snuffers are extremely scarce. They are distinguished from the sugar nips by the fact that the leaf grips are flat and set slightly at an angle to properly extinguish the flame of a candle. This Old English pattern ladle has a round bowl and is engraved in a feathered script on the handle with the initials 'REA' of the original owner.
