Primitive portrait of Reverend Ebenezer Gay of Suffield, Connecticut. Oil on canvas. Unframed. Unsigned. Circa 1770s. Size: 35.5 inches x 29 inches. This portrait is very similar to one attributed to the portrait painter Winthrop Chandler that was published by David A. Schorsch in his exhibition catalog in 1989 and which recently sold at auction at Sotheby's in Sept. 2010. Our portrait has descended through the family of Ebenezer Gay's daughter, Lucy Gay Swan, of Woodstock, Vermont. ...click for details
